Associate Professor Robert Parkyn OAM is a highly respected Adelaide breast and endocrine surgeon with a career spanning almost five decades.
He has extensive expertise in the management of thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and breast disorders, and has performed more than 30,000 surgical procedures during his career.
He continues to consult in private practice in Adelaide and has been closely associated with South Australia’s major teaching hospitals and Adelaide University.
Beyond his clinical work, Associate Professor Parkyn has made significant contributions to surgical education and international outreach.
He founded the INTEREST (International Endocrine Surgical Teams) program, which provides training and mentoring for surgeons in developing nations across Asia and Africa.
His leadership roles have included positions within the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons as a past President and the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons.
In recognition of his outstanding service to medicine, particularly in the fields of breast and endocrine surgery, Associate Professor Parkyn was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) by the Australian Government.
His career has been distinguished by a commitment to clinical excellence, surgical education, humanitarian service and the advancement of endocrine surgery both in Australia and internationally.
